The key objective of this exercise is to guarantee safety, value for money and customer satisfaction through compliance with accepted standards for quarter rods, half inch and five eight rods among others ,in line with SLS 27 version 2.

This to a very large extent outlined the required diameter and length of the different types of iron rods imported into Sierra Leone.

The Manager of Metrology Sierra Leone Standards Bureau Franklyn Martin said the verification is in response to several complaints from the General Public accusing iron rod marketers of cheating and saturating the market with substandard rods regardless of quality assurance and value for money.

Stating that a couple of months ago similar verification was done to substantiate allegation against importers.

However, a report was submitted to the Ministry of Trade and Industry where a decision was reached after meeting with importers according them grace period upto August,2022 to allow them sell their old stocks and start importation of required rods.

Out of the 9 iron rod importers who are targeted in Freetown, Mackie Building Materials and Jeety Trading Companies were visited today by a team of Metrology staff for verification to see how far importers are complying with laid down standards for iron rods in Sierra Leone.
