Despite very positive strides so far made by the
President Ernest Bai Koroma-led government, some
ill-motivated individuals are bent on frustrating such
moves and the latest culprits are two police officers
who were caught stealing fuel meant for the operations
of the National Power Authority (NPA) last Sunday.

The officers are Police Constables (PC) 7639 Nabieu S. J
deployed at police transport headquarters and PC 9172
George I. S. of the Operational Support Division (OSD)
attached to the National Power Authority (NPA) Power
Station, at Kingtom, were arrested in possession of 21
five-gallon plastic containers filled with NPA fuel.

The officers were arrested alongside two civilians,
Juma Amara and Julius Smart.

The four met their waterloo at about 03:20 hours when
seven police officers acting on a tip - off arrested
the four suspects with 21 five gallon plastic
containers at the back of the NPA power house.

The activities of the four culprits had been closely
monitored by the seven police officers who were on
patrol around the NPA station.

When the arresting police officers decided to storm
the premises where the fuel was being transported
(the house of PC 7639), they discovered
containers filled with fuel.

Residents in the area say the practice has been
going on for years.
Calls are now being made for drastice action to be
taken against the police officers to serve as deterrent to others.

Corruption in the Sierra Leone police force is endemic and some of the causes highlighted by study after study are low pay and very bad conditions of service.
