On behalf of the executive and members of the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) in the United Kingdom and Ireland, I am conveying my sincere congratulations on your election as President of the Republic of Sierra Leone. We received the news with great joy and excitement, amidst no surprise.
As a people, we have placed our trust in you to lead us at this critical juncture in our nation’s history. The strong mandate we have given you reflects our confidence in your ability to deal with the complex challenges facing Sierra Leone now and in the years to come.
Your landslide and incontestable victory largely attests to the culmination of the unpopularity of your predecessor all these years. We are confident that, with your exemplary luminous and promising leadership, as demonstrated both in private life and at politics, the nation will increase its pace of progress in many fields in the next five years.
Our two parties have enjoyed a warm and friendly relationship long before now.
It has been a strong relationship based on the principles of mutual benefit, respect and love for our country. Since then, we have worked closely on many national issues of common interest, including these elections. It is our firm belief that the friendly relations and cooperation existing between our two parties, under the distinguished leaderships of you and Hon Charles Francis Margai will continue to expand and blossom, as we jointly move our nation toward a better future. We hope that the APC-PMDC alliance makes a difference in Sierra Leone’s political history by continuing to work closely together, to enhance our nation’s stability and to bring prosperity to our people.
Please convey our heartfelt congratulations to the entire membership of the APC, and thanks to the people of Sierra Leone for their participation in the peaceful and successful conclusion of these historic elections, which is a true testament to the maturity and resilience of our people in working the democratic process - an example for others to emulate.
