SIERRA LEONE PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC LEAGUE( P.D.L.)

PUBLIC RELEASE STATEMENT

21st. July,2006

Provincial Office, Northern Province

We, of the Sierra Leone People’s Democratic League
(PDL) have noted with utter dismay the unending brutal
aggression and occupation of mineral-rich
North-Eastern territories of Sierra Leone by
neighbouring Guinean forces of terror and pillage
commanded by the Dictator Lansana Conte’s regime in
Conakry.

The Guinean occupation of Sierra Leone is a
direct product of the Dictator Lansana Conte’s
ambition for aggression and annexation of Sierra
Leonean mineral-rich lands and territories. This is
unacceptable and we demand an immediate and
unconditional withdrawal of the Guinean aggression
forces out of Sierra Leone and compensation for the
damages inflicted on Sierra Leoneans as a result of
the violent occupation.

It must be noted here that the terror(istic) Guinean military
landed in Sierra Leone in 2002, via the Eastern town
of Yenga in a bid to realise the Dictator Lansana
Conte’s policy of domination, pillage and terror in
the Mano River Union (MRU). In spite of complaints and
protests by individual concerned Sierra Leoneans and
groups such as the Sierra Leone People’s Democratic
League, the international community, particularly the
Kofi Anann led United Nations has turned blind eyes and
deaf ears on the issue, and remained dumb on the
bitter tragedy suffered by Sierra Leoneans under the
Guinean brutal occupation.

We, of the Sierra Leone People’s Democratic League
(PDL) reiterate that the Guinean terror(istic) military
occupation of Sierra Leonean territories is entirely
contrary to the will and interests of Sierra Leoneans
as it is an illegal and unjustifiable invasion. It
also threatened regional peace and security, and the
main object of the occupation is to attain the
Dictator Lansana Conte’s aggressive interests and
ruthless exploitation of the citizens of the Mano
River Union of Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea.

The occupation is a villainous attack on the national
independence, sovereignty and dignity of Sierra Leone,
and an anti-peace and anti-democratic and uncivilised
behaviour against the will and desire of the people of
Sierra Leone. In their gruesome efforts to pillage the
country’s mineral and other economic resources base,
the Guinean forces of aggression resorted to massively
deploying modern war machines further into Sierra
Leonean territories causing the displacement and
killings of thousands of civilians. Other heinous
crimes like forceful conscription, raping of young
girls, illegal mining and tapping of resources,
looting of property are committed also against our
people at will, and with no end in sight.

These are not the marks of good neighbourliness, but
simply the incarnation of a modern Hitler in the Mano
River Union sub-region. The people of Sierra Leone
reserve the right to self-defence against any
aggression or threat of aggression. Sierra Leoneans
maintain that only through peace and security can
Africa move forward, and the goals set out by the African
Union (AU achieved. That the current Guinean
aggression on Sierra Leone is driven by an imperialist
agenda whereby detractors of Africa use precisely
dictators like Lansana
Conte to wreak havoc on the continent and dehumanize
black people.

As affiliate member of the Green Charter International
(GCI) for peace, stability, democracy, human rights
and freedom, the Sierra Leone People’s Democratic
League wishes to call upon the African Union to exert
pressure on the dictator Lansana Conte’s regime in
Conakry to change its policy on Sierra Leone to meet
the trends of civilised standards and norms of
behaviours and the demand of the Sierra Leonean people
and make a decision to immediately and unconditionally
withdraw its aggression military out of Sierra Leone.
We believe an end to Guinean brutal occupation of
Sierra Leone is one sure way the 2007 elections in
the country could be peaceful, free and democratic.

While we await the swift, just and dignified response
of the African Union (AU) to end the nightmares the
Guinean forces of aggression unleashed on our people
everyday, we pray that common sense prevails and the
dictator Lansana Conte’s regime in Conakry withdraw
its forces of aggression out of Sierra Leone.

An elected government led by the Sierra Leone People’s
Democratic League will guarantee the security of
Sierra Leonean life and property, and will restore the
morale and respect of the Sierra Leonean army to deter
any external aggression or threat to Sierra Leone’s
sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

The sovereignty of Sierra Leone must be respected!
