Meet Sierra Leone’s Sahr Ngaujah, lead on Fela on Broadway

Raised in Atlanta , the son of an immigrant from Sierra Leone and an American mother, Mr Ngaujah began his carer conventionally enough. Initially part of a christian rap group called 4MD ( or Four More Disciples ) he enrolled in a high school for the arts that was part of the same flourishing Atlanta arts scene that has produced bands like Outkast, Xscape and Jagged Edge and the comedian Kenan Thompson of " Saturday Night Live " and one of Mr Ngaujah ’s fellow cast members the actress Saycon Sengbloh.

Sahr Ngaujah (Fela Anikulapo-Kuti) Theatre includes: FELA! (Broadway and West End). Nominated for best actor in a musical both at the Tony Awards in New York and the Olivier Awards in London. Television and film includes: Passing Glory, A Lesson Before Dying, The Signal, Stomp the Yard, Blood Done Sign My Name. For 15+ years he has worked as an actor and director between the US and Europe. A graduate of Dasarts Amsterdam. Other artists and directors Sahr has worked with include Freddie Hendricks, Gerrit Timmers, Del Hamilton (7Stages), Faulk Richter, Tim Habeger (Push Push) and Sierra Leone hip hop act, Bajah + The Dry Eye Crew.
