Brigadier(Rtd) Julius Maada Bio(photo) and Lieutenant(Rtd) Tom Nyuma,
former National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC)
Head of State and Secretary of State East
respectively, last Wednesday begged for mercy from the
new President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma.

Both former junta strongmen were invited by the new
President at a special ceremony at State House.
They begged the new President to forgive them for
whatever crimes they might have committed against the
APC.

The two strongmen wanted the President to assure them
of security during their stay in Sierra Leone.
President Koroma assured the two men of his
government’s security and that this is the time for
national reconciliation and his government will not
intimidate or harm anybody.

Both Maada Bio and Tom Nyuma have been living in fear
especially during the final days of the electioneering
campaign when it was becoming evident that the
All People’s Congress party was going to form the next
government.

Maada Bio has been on record of having said in a live
radio programme on FM 98.1 Radio Democracy that he
will stage a coup should the APC return to
power - a statement that provoked wild and negative
public reaction. He later tried to deny what he said or explain it away.

Tom Nyuma was recently accused of attempting to
assasinate President Koroma during the final days of
campaigning at a hotel in the township of Bo, Southern
Sierra Leone.

The matter was overturned in what is believed to be an
unpopular political and judicial conspiracy at a
Magistrate Court in Bo that saw Nyuma being freed
while the security guard of Koroma, Idrissa Leather
Boot Kamara, arrested and detained.

Both Bio and Nyuma have since been living in fear with some sections of the public saying their presence could be a threat to state
security.

President Koroma reiterated his call for all Sierra Leoneans to be law abiding and avoid violent acts and other forms of criminality.

Observers have been fascinated by the current situation in Sierra Leone where you have an APC President and Vice President working with SLPP ministers. A new cabinet is expected to be appointed soon.
