A well known Sierra Leonean social commentator and civil society activist and businessman Edward Babatunde Blyden recently updated his membership of the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) at the UK branch in London recently.

Blyden, commonly known as Babatunde Blyden or Pa Blyden was almost always in the news as a civil society activist in the early 90s and mid-90s in Sierra Leone during the reign of the NPRC military junta. He was not in the good books of that junta, to put it mildly and he and his family subsequently suffered various forms of harassment. His wife was at one time arrested and detained at the notorious Pademba Road prison by the junta.

He is the father of Sierra Leone’s current Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Dr. Sylvia Blyden and one of the eight children of the famous Sierra Leonean scholar, orator and diplomat Dr. Edward Wilmot Blyden III. Babatunde Blyden is also a descendant of the great patriarch of the Blydens in Liberia and Sierra Leone, Dr. Wilmot Blyden.

APC-UK Vice-Chairman Idris Bangura and Secretary-General Alpha Bai-Kamara (left and right of Blyden in photo) were on hand to welcome Pa Blyden to the APC office in London and assist in the updating of his membership.
