Winifred Boyah, daughter of retired army Brigadier KES
Boyah is being quizzed by detectives in Freetown, in
collaboration with the National Telecommunications
Commission (NATCOM) over allegations that she is
operating an illegal communications company contrary
to the NATCOM Act of 2006.

GAL Technical, Winifred’s alleged company, situated at Spur Road in Freetown is
the first offender under the newly enacted NATCOM Act
and Police sources say she has been operating under
very dubious circumstances and her company has the
capability to terminate international calls.

NATCOM, according to the Act was established to license
and regularize all telecommunication operations in
Sierra Leone and make provision for offences
committed within the territory of Sierra Leone.
One of such offences is the operation of telecommunication services without license and other violations under the Act.

An official at NATCOM refused to comment on the issue
yesterday saying the matter is in the hands of the
police. We have also not been able to reach Winifred for comments.
