The Executive Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Sierra Leone, Mr. Victor Angelo(photo), hosted representatives of the political parties contesting the August polls at the second UNIOSIL breakfast inter-party dialogue on Thursday, 12 July 2007.

"These regular meetings bring together senior politicians who share the same aspiration for a peaceful electoral campaign in the spirit of fair competition", emphasized the top UN official in Sierra Leone while welcoming his guests.

The meeting enhanced the building of confidence and mutual trust among the parties and provided an opportunity to gain a fuller understanding of the views, positions and concerns of others on electoral and related matters. The breakfast meeting addressed also specific subjects such as “The role of political party agents in the elections” and "Public order issues in the elections".

On 15 June, representatives of all registered political parties attended the first breakfast session on inter-party dialogue and appreciated the event as an excellent opportunity to reduce tension and to demonstrate growing maturity in the political debate.
