Ahmed Wurie, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of
Transport and Communications was on Friday arrested on the orders of
the Anti-Corruption Commission investigating illicit
payments by Paramount Airline whose helicopter crashed
at the Freetown International airport on June 3
killing some 20 Togolese and Gabonese nationals.

Both the Permanent Secretary, who was one time State
Chief of Protocol in the office of the President, and
the suspended Minister of Transport Dr. Prince Harding
were being questioned by the ACC culminating in the
arrest of Wurie.

Sources say the ACC investigation reveals frequent
payments to the Permanent Secrectary but the amount
involved was not stated. An official statement to the
effect is expected from the ACC soon.

The James Tambi Commission
of inquiry investigating the causes of the crash has
started work. The two member commission also
includes a Togolese national appointed by his
government.
