June 8th, 2009

Dear Sylvia Blyden,

I read your response to my article (published on the June 7th, 2009 online edition of the “patriotic vanguard”) in your Awareness Times newspaper of June 8th, 2009 in which you strenuously attempted to exonerate Mr. John O. Benjamin of any complicity in the brutal killing of innocent and unsuspecting civilians, as well as for multitude of human rights violations committed during the reign (1992-1996) of the National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC) of which the latter was a key player as Chief Secretary of State.

While my response should not be construed to challenge your opinionated response, I hereby follow the following response for the benefit of the public as well as to correct some misrepresentation you have made:

That I did not write the said article in my capacity as Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, but as deputy editor (on leave) of the patriotic vanguard newspaper.

That as a Sierra Leonean with a stake in the profession of journalism, I have the right to contribute to the debate on issues that have bearing in consolidating the peace progressive Sierra Leoneans dearly contributed to achieve, while others were busy romancing with Foday Sankoh, the devil incarnate responsible for the destruction of our country, fake politicians responsible for the destruction of our country, and conveniently married to multiple of rogues including former Liberian Immigration boss until when dumped on reason of promiscuity;

That I will not contest the quotes attributed to some of my jail mates since the right of liberty for one to even say s/he was not brought into the world by his/her mother should be at the discretion of that individual.

I had wanted to dismiss your response, as I have done in the past, on the reason that why fritter away valuable time on someone that perennially suffers from both Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Conduct Disorder?

As such, the response above is as a result of my disposition to defy detractors weary of human rights indictment, and have therefore come to construe the Awareness Times’ response to my commentary as yet another sycophantic public relations piece from a poorly “educated” shallow mind for political aggrandizement.

Thanking you very much in advance for your magnanimity to publish.

Abdulai Bayraytay,
