The All People’s Congress Ohio Chapter will be having an inauguration of its new executive and a fundraising dance Saturday, April 14, at the ever-popular Days Inn Hotel, 1212 East Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, Ohio.

The inauguration of the newly-formed executive will commence from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, to be followed by a gala fundraising dance, from 10:00 pm till the wee hours.

According to APC party stalwart Alie Kabba, the Saturday event will bring to Columbus, Ohio, party members and supporters from all across the United States of America, including presidents from the various chapters. This year’s event will also have a side attraction: a cultural performance, a miming competition and a raffle with very attractive prizes. The incomparable DJ Bakarr with his explosive sound system will be on hand to provide the latest music from Africa, Europe and America. Aside from contemporary music, there will be popular disco music from the 70s to the 90s.

In a brief telephone conversation, the president of the newly-formed executive Rashid Bangura (photo), a life-long member of the ruling All People’s Congress, extended this invitation not only to APC members and supporters but all Sierra Leoneans domiciled in Ohio: “On behalf of the executive committee and general membership of the Ohio Chapter of the All People’s Congress, I would like to invite you all to our fundraising dance.”

Columbus, Ohio, is home to many Sierra Leoneans. It is also an APC stronghold in the United States of America. At a time when it was difficult for individuals in the United States to identify themselves as APC supporters, there were party members in Ohio who stood up, including the current Organizing Secretary of the North America Branch, Eddie Bangura.

Immediately after the political comeback of the APC, the Ohio Chapter was among those chapters in the United States of America that held an APC Victory Dance. Despite inclement weather, many party faithful came out to celebrate the APC election victory in 2007. The Chapter also hosted the first party convention in North America that ushered in the current executive of the North America Branch of the All People’s Congress, following the 2007 general election in Sierra Leone.

“As party faithful we’re proud of the big economic turnaround in our country brought about by our noble party under the vibrant and dynamic leadership of Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma,” says an exuberant Rashid Bangura, president of the Ohio Chapter of the All People’s Congress.

”The fundraising dance in Ohio this coming Saturday, April 14, affords us the opportunity to celebrate over the meaningful strides made so far - the improved electricity situation in Freetown and its environs, the ongoing infrastructural development in the form of expanded and macadamized roads in the whole country, and the substantial gains in agriculture, education and healthcare,” he said.
