Sekou Cheriff Konte, a Maraka from The Gambia, is in
police custody following his arrest last Thursday at
the Freetown International Airport Lungi with US$
314,000 in cash, according to Supt. Alfred
Karrow-Kamara, the Police Local Unit Commander at
Lungi.

He was going through security when the amount
was discovered in the hand luggage he was carrying by
a combined team of Aviation Security and the Police.

Upon interrogation, he named one Alhaji Kabba Cisse as
owner of the money. Later, another diamond
businessman, Bajoko Kabba claimed the money was stolen
from him but no such report was made to the police
prior to the arrest.

Alhaji Kabba Cisse is also a Maraka from The Gambia
and sometime last year he was almost killed when
robbers attacked him at his residence in Koidu Town,
Kono district in eastern Sierra Leone and made away
with a huge amount of cash in local and foreign currencies and diamonds.
